What makes me an authority on sun care? To tell you the truth, it’s just that I burn easily and I spend a lot of time in the sun! When my wife Sarah and I moved to Santa Cruz from Seattle a few years ago and I started surfing, bike commuting, and living in the sun in earnest, I found myself using two products every time I got ready to go outside. I had one tube I liked that worked as a sunblock, but it burnt my eyes (and smelled weird), and so I had also had to have another, slightly less effective lotion to use around my eyes. One day, I was wondering out loud why in the world no one had created a simple, all-purpose sun protection product that works (and doesn’t smell like a fruity Hawaiian cocktail), and someone said, “Well, why don’t you just buy some zinc powder and make your own?” Good question, eh?
So that’s how I found myself researching ingredients and formulas, and experimenting with mixing them in my kitchen. I’m no chemist, but I’m a pretty good cook and it did not take me long to discover that an effective sunscreen can easily be made from just seven natural ingredients! When I finally had the perfect formulation, I started Hara Body Care to satisfy the need we all share for reliable sun protection made from simple, natural, effective ingredients.
